Books with Bob - Mistress of Marymoor

Meet Bob.

Bob (Battery Operated Book) was my Christmas present from my family. I've been hanging around Amazon for a while now, undecided as to whether or not  to take the plunge and invest in a Kindle.

Being a bit old-fashioned, I'd much rather curl up with a paperback. However, I gratefully accepted my Christmas present thinking that perhaps it was a good thing the decision was taken out of my hands. It was time for me to move into the 21st century. So far I haven't been disappointed. Although I do still find myself trying to thumb the page instead of clicking the forward button.

If you've visited my blog before, you'll remember that I recently interviewed Historical Author Anna Jacobs on her Swan River Saga. Since I'd not read any of her books yet, I thought I'd start with MISTRESS OF MARYMOOR as my first Kindle download and work my way through the list from there.

Deborah Jannvier is rescued from a miserable existence when she inherits Marymoor from her dying Great Uncle Ralph. But in order to inherit she must marry the rather delightful Matthew Pascoe and stop the estate from falling into unsavoury hands. It's not long before we see just how perfect Deborah and Matthew are for each other, but they have to conquer many roadblocks before they find happiness.

Mistress of Marymoor, set in the 18th century, spent most of 2011 in Amazon UK's top 100 historical romances. I can't wait to download the rest of Anna's books (or buy the paperback!) Maybe both. I was hooked immediately by the villiany and underhandedness of the baddies, swept along as Deborah and Matthew join forces against nasty cousin Elkin and greedy Uncle Walter. Anna gives this story great life, as with a little help from the loyal village folk, many a battle is fought.

What I liked best about MISTRESS OF MARYMOOR  is the 'salt of the earth' characters. A delightful break from the ballroom glamour and glitter of the historicals I normally enjoy. No balls, no society ma'ams looking down their noses at Deborah; just true, home-grown characters who don't mind getting their hands a little dirty or taking off across the moors in desperate escape attempts.
